What is a background check?

A background check is a report gathered by a consumer reporting agency that is used by companies to verify that an individual is who they claim to be and to confirm the validity of an applicant's criminal record, driving record, education, employment history and other records that are deemed relevant when making a hiring decision.

When a company requests a background check from Turn, they do so with the sole purpose of making an informed hiring decision. A background check cannot be initiated without an individual's consent. The information that is collected in a background check will vary depending on the responsibilities and expectations of the particular role. 

For instance, if a company is hiring a driver, they will likely require a Motor Vehicle Record. A company who is hiring a nurse may not need to consider an applicant's driving history, but will need to confirm the applicant's education and certifications.
